Higurashi: When They Cry - GOU Season 1 Episode 1 Demon-Deceiving Chapter, Part 1

In the small village of Hinamizawa, the annual Watanagashi Festival is celebrated with much excitement amongst its residents. But for Keiichi Maebara, a transfer student from the city, the festivities bring about a sense of unease as rumors of a mysterious curse that befalls the village during the festival begin to circulate.

Despite his friends Rena, Mion, Satoko, and Rika trying to reassure him, Keiichi becomes increasingly paranoid as he learns about the village's gruesome past. He starts to believe that there is something sinister lurking behind the happy facade of Hinamizawa.

As the festival approaches, strange occurrences begin to happen around Keiichi. He receives an anonymous phone call warning him of danger, and he starts seeing hallucinations of a bloody past. The villagers seem to be hiding something from him, and he feels like he is being watched at all times.

Keiichi's paranoia reaches a fever pitch when he discovers a hidden room in the school, full of newspaper clippings about the murders that occurred in Hinamizawa years ago. He starts to suspect that his friends are not who they seem and are somehow involved in the curse.

In a fit of desperation, Keiichi confronts Rena, accusing her of hiding something from him. Rena denies any involvement and tries to calm Keiichi down, but he refuses to listen. As he races home in a panic, Keiichi comes across a strange figure stalking him in the darkness.

The episode ends with Keiichi on the brink of a nervous breakdown, haunted by visions of horror and the possibility that he may be the next victim of the curse.
