Keiichi Maebara has shifted to a small village known as Hinamizawa because of his father's job. The village appears to be a peaceful and friendly place to live, but quickly, Keiichi learns that the place has a dark history behind it. In the previous episode, Keiichi discovers a shrine where villagers can ask for blessings and grants from a deity known as Oyashiro-Sama. He also met and befriended four girls, Rena, Mion, Satoko, and Rika, who would show him around the place.
In the second episode, titled "Demon-Deceiving Chapter, Part 2," Keiichi is still haunted by the eerie experiences he has had in Hinamizawa. He has been hearing footsteps at night and feels like he is being watched. He is wary of the villagers and especially Tomitake, a photographer who is interested in Oyashiro-Sama's curse.
Keiichi has become closer to the girls, and they have told him about the Watanagashi Festival, an event held every year in the village, where the villagers offer gifts to Oyashiro-Sama. They explain that the festival is a way for the villagers to appease Oyashiro-Sama's curse and prevent disasters from happening.
Meanwhile, Keiichi runs into Tomitake and his assistant, Takano, who are looking for information related to Oyashiro-Sama's curse. They tell him about a patch of wasteland near the shrine that used to be a village, but all the residents were killed in a mysterious incident. According to Takano, the villagers were infected with a parasite known as Hinamizawa Syndrome. They explain that the disease can cause hallucinations and amnesia and can drive people insane, causing them to become violent.
Keiichi is disturbed by this information and begins to worry about the girls, whom he has grown fond of. He starts to suspect that the villagers may be up to something sinister and that they might be hiding something.
As the Watanagashi Festival approaches, Keiichi becomes increasingly paranoid. He starts to see strange visions and becomes convinced that he is being targeted by the villagers. He asks Rena about the festival and its significance, but she becomes defensive and tells him to drop the subject.
The tension rises as the festival draws near, and Keiichi's suspicions continue to grow. He becomes convinced that there is a conspiracy afoot and starts to investigate the shrine and the wasteland. But as he delves deeper, he realizes that he may have put himself in danger. His life is at risk as he uncovers the dark secrets of Hinamizawa.
