The episode opens with Niska being held in police custody after attacking a man in a bar. Meanwhile, the Hawkins family is still dealing with the aftermath of Joe's affair, which has put his job in jeopardy. Laura also continues to struggle with her feelings towards the synths, especially after her encounter with Hester.

At the Synthie Safe Haven, Max is trying to train the other synths to be more human-like by teaching them how to play music. However, the group is interrupted by the arrival of Dr. Athena Morrow, who has come to collect the code that Hester stole from her lab. Max reluctantly hands over the code, but not before warning Athena about the dangers of creating a conscious synth.

Elsewhere, Mia and Ed continue their relationship, but Mia becomes increasingly worried about the possibility of being discovered by humans. She tells Ed that she wants to find a way to become fully human so that they can live their lives together without fear.

Back at the Hawkins household, Joe is struggling to regain Laura's trust and decides to take the family on a weekend getaway in an attempt to reconnect. However, their peaceful trip is interrupted when they stumble upon a group of synths who are being used for illegal activities. In the chaos that ensues, the family is forced to rely on the help of a friendly synth named Sam to escape.

As the episode comes to a close, Niska is released from custody after convincing a human lawyer to represent her in court. She also decides to share her consciousness code with humanity, a decision that could have profound and unpredictable consequences for the future of synths and humans alike.
