After a long wait, Janet King is back on the screens with its fantastic second season, and in episode 5, titled "Apprehended Violence," things get even more intense. The hit show, which centers around the titular character, a fierce and brilliant woman in the Australian justice system, has gained a lot of acclaim for its intelligent storytelling and realistic portrayal of law enforcement. The fifth episode of the second season continues in that vein, with plenty of twists and turns to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

Following the shocking events of the previous episode, Janet King is still reeling from the brutal attack that left her colleague and friend, Anthony, in critical condition. But there's no rest for the wicked in the justice system, and Janet is once again thrown into the fray as she investigates a case of domestic violence involving a high-profile radio host, Sam Cahill, whose wife Lynn claims he's been abusing her for years.

As per usual, nothing is quite as it seems, and Janet soon realizes that there's more to the story than meets the eye. As she delves deeper into the case, she uncovers a web of lies and deceit, with everyone from Lynn's sister to Sam's agent potentially involved in the violence. Meanwhile, Janet is still struggling with the fallout from her attack, as her PTSD threatens to overwhelm her at every turn.

To make matters worse, her boss, Tony, is pressuring her to wrap up the case quickly, fearing that Sam's influential connections will make it difficult to secure a conviction. But Janet isn't one to be intimidated, and she's determined to see justice done, no matter the cost.

As always, the show's cast delivers stellar performances, with Marta Dusseldorp once again shining in the lead role. Her portrayal of Janet King is both nuanced and powerful, showing us a woman who's strong and fearless on the outside but vulnerable and human on the inside. Supporting performances from the rest of the cast are equally strong, with Damian Walshe-Howling as Tony, Christopher Morris as Lina's sister, and Alexander England as Sam all turning in memorable performances.

Another standout feature of Janet King is its excellent writing, and episode 5 is no exception. The plot is complex and multi-layered, with plenty of twists and turns to keep viewers engaged. The domestic violence theme feels particularly timely in today's world, and the show doesn't shy away from the ugly realities of this kind of abuse. The script is both powerful and thought-provoking, exploring the difficult questions at the heart of the case without ever becoming preachy or didactic.

All in all, Janet King season 2 episode 5 is a gripping and emotionally charged installment in an already excellent series. With its compelling storyline, fantastic cast, and excellent writing, it's hard to find fault with this show. Fans of legal dramas or detective stories will definitely want to give Janet King a watch, and newcomers to the series will find it easy to jump in at this point and get caught up in the intrigue.
