Jeff, a beloved children's television host, is struggling to navigate his personal life as his marriage has fallen apart and his son passed away. In episode 6 of Kidding's first season, titled "The Cookie," Jeff is faced with the aftermath of his son's death as he tries to bond with his estranged wife Jill in a way they haven't in years.

The episode begins with Jeff waking up in his son's old room, which he has taken over since his son's passing. He walks through the house reminiscing about his son and his old life, which is a constant reminder of his pain and heartbreak. Meanwhile, Jill, who has moved out of the house and into a swanky high-rise, is on the phone with a friend trying to convince her to take her leftover cookies since she's on a strict diet. Jeff overhears her conversation and decides to surprise her by baking her his son's favorite cookies.

As Jeff is baking, he has a visit from an old friend, Joey, who comes in with a bag full of weed to help Jeff cope with his pain. Jeff declines but decides to show Joey a hidden recording studio where they used to record children's music together. While in the studio, Jeff decides to record a song about his son, which prompts Joey to suggest they make it into a music video. Jeff agrees and asks Joey to help him produce it.

Meanwhile, Jill is navigating her new life as a single woman in the city. She spends most of her time surfing social media and trying to keep up with the latest trends, which proves to be difficult since she's out of touch with modern technology. While trying to figure out how Instagram works, she stumbles upon a meme of Jeff's popular puppet Mr. Pickles with a crude caption. She's appalled and decides to confront Jeff about it.

When Jeff goes to drop off the cookies, he tries to make small talk with Jill by asking about her new life and if she's seeing anyone. Jill is hesitant to open up but finally admits that she has started seeing someone. Jeff tries to maintain his composure, but he's clearly hurt by the news. The two then argue about the Mr. Pickles meme, and Jill accuses Jeff of not caring about the show anymore. Jeff storms out, leaving the cookies behind.

Later that day, Jeff meets up with Seb, the producer of his show, who informs him that they've received backlash from parents who are upset about the Mr. Pickles meme. Seb suggests that they suspend the show for a while to do damage control and come up with new ideas. Jeff is devastated by the news and feels like he's losing everything.

Jeff then meets up with Joey, who has finished the music video for his song. Jeff is hesitant to watch it, but eventually gives in. The video features Jeff and Joey wearing silver bodysuits, running through fields holding pictures of Jeff's son. Jeff is overcome with emotion and tears up. Joey urges him to post the video on social media to let people know what Jeff has been going through.

Jeff decides to post the video and the response is overwhelming. People are touched by the song and share their own stories of loss. Jill sees the video and realizes how much Jeff is hurting. She sends him a text message telling him that she loves him and misses him. Jeff is hesitant to respond, but eventually does. The episode ends with Jeff on his front lawn, playing catch with his son's old football, feeling a sense of peace.

Overall, "The Cookie" is a poignant episode that explores grief and loss in a meaningful way. It's a testament to the show's ability to balance comedy and drama, while still maintaining an emotional core. Jeff's journey is heart-wrenching, but ultimately uplifting as he learns to cope with his pain and reconnect with his wife.
