The show Krypton is a science fiction drama series set in the world of Superman. The first episode of season one, titled "Pilot," starts with a prologue that gives us a glimpse of the legendary hero's universe. We see the familiar "S" emblem of the House of El, and the voiceover of the late Marlon Brando (as Jor-El) explaining the history of Krypton - the planet-destroying event that sent his son, Superman, to Earth.

The actual story of the episode begins two weeks before the birth of Superman's grandfather, Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe). Seg-El is a young man of the House of El, who lives in the city of Kandor - a city that is shrinking by the day due to a lack of resources. The episode gives us a tour of this city, showing us its bustling streets, its towering buildings, and its technology - such as the hoverbikes and the communication devices.

Seg-El, however, is not living the life of luxury that one might expect from a noble family. His family has been disgraced after his grandfather, Val-El, was executed for heresy. The reason for Val-El's execution is a mystery, as the episode keeps dropping hints about a conspiracy against the House of El. Further complicating things is the fact that Seg-El himself is a disappointment to his father, Ter-El (Rupert Graves). He is a "rankless" man, without a job or a purpose in life.

Seg-El's life takes a dramatic turn when he meets a girl named Lyta-Zod (Georgina Campbell). Lyta is a cadet in the military guild, and a member of the House of Zod - a rival family to the Els. The two young people fall in love, despite the fact that their families are enemies. Their romance, however, is threatened by Lyta's loyalty to her family, and by the revelations that Seg-El will uncover about the conspiracy against the House of El.

The plot thickens when a stranger named Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) appears in Kandor. Strange is a human from Earth, who possesses a mysterious device that can control time itself. He has traveled through space and time to warn Seg-El about a grave danger that threatens Krypton's future - Brainiac (Blake Ritson), a malevolent entity that is known to Superman fans as one of his greatest foes.

The episode does an excellent job of introducing the main characters and the world they inhabit. The production design is impressive, with the city of Kandor being a beautiful blend of futuristic technology and ancient architecture. The costumes also add to the sense of alienness, with the characters wearing unique and elaborate outfits that reflect their respective guilds and houses.

The acting is also top-notch, with Cameron Cuffe delivering a strong performance as the lead character, Seg-El. He is a sympathetic protagonist, who is easy to root for, but he also has an edge to him that hints at his potential as a hero. Georgina Campbell shines as Lyta, bringing a toughness and vulnerability to her role. Rupert Graves is suitably ominous as Ter-El, while Shaun Sipos brings a touch of humor and mystery to his portrayal of Adam Strange.

Overall, the first episode of Krypton is an exciting and engaging start to the series. It sets up a compelling mystery, introduces intriguing characters, and establishes a unique and visually stunning world. Whether you are a fan of Superman or just a lover of science fiction, this show is definitely worth a watch.
