Ep 3. Meeting Rina

Clinging to the adventures that come with being a mermaid, three Australian girls venture inside the sacred Mako Island and encounter a pool that allows them to transform into mermaids whenever water touches their skin. They must fight to keep their secret from the surrounding humans. In the third episode of the first season of Mako Mermaids: An H2O Adventure, Meeting Rina, we meet Lyla, Sirena, and Nixie, as they venture out to find a new home for themselves. They soon run into Rina, who is trapped in a fishing net, and rescue her. Rina insists that she knows how to finish the mermaids' task of protecting Mako Island and are necessary for the completion of the task. Despite her initial distrust of Rina, Lyla and the other mermaids cautiously give her the benefit of the doubt and consider her suggestion.

The mermaids are still adjusting to their newfound abilities and the responsibilities that come with them, but they are already feeling the strain of keeping their secret and navigating the world outside Mako Island. They come across David and his sister Sirena, who they later find out are the descendants of another mermaid, and who, in turn, are threatened by a new development project by the council. As they continue their search for a new home, they bump into a mysterious woman, Rina, who is caught in a fishing net. The girls, meddlesome by nature, help Rina escape, only to find out that she also has a mermaid tail.

Rina shares with the mermaids that she is a nomad mermaid who has been traveling the world, looking for a new home, and offering her knowledge to other mermaids as they protect their sacred places. She explains that she knows how the mermaids on Mako can complete their task of keeping the powerful Trident out of human hands. Rina requires the help of the mermaids in exchange for her knowledge and wisdom. Lyla, the group's leader, remains distrustful of Rina, but Nixie and Sirena believe that Rina can be trusted.

Despite her initial reluctance, Lyla eventually lowers her defenses after speaking to Rina for a while and begins to consider her wise. One of the most significant strengths of the show is that the storylines are plausible, and the characters act like real people; in this case, they are exuding caution towards Rina. Lyla later decides to let Rina help the mermaids, but they will need to return to the island to communicate with the moon's goddess, Nerissa, for confirmation.

As the group returns to the island, they bump into Zac, who, unbeknownst to the mermaids, also has a mermaid tail. He notices that the group has been hiding something and becomes suspicious of their behavior. With Sirena's help, the mermaids enlist Zac to help them sneak back to the island, where they are met with two bickering young mermen, Cam and Nixie's older brother, Lira. They, too, were surprised to discover that Rina had been found and that she was meddling in affairs.

The group realizes that Rina could be telling the truth, and the girls assist Rina in communicating with Nerissa, who confirms that Rina is telling the truth. Nixie's brother, Lira, agrees to help Rina, and together, they come up with a plan of a new location for the mermaids to complete their task. As the mermaids prepare for their journey, they discover an unexpected addition to their team, which makes the situation much more dangerous.

Mako Mermaids: An H2O Adventure is a thrilling show about three Australian teenagers who find themselves transformed into mermaids and must navigate the challenges that come with keeping their identities a secret. The third episode, Meeting Rina, is an exciting addition to the series as the mermaids begin to learn more about their powers and the responsibilities that come with them.
