In season 1 episode 3 of Man v. Food with Adam Richman, the host travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to take on the city's biggest food challenges. Pittsburgh is known for its hearty cuisine, and Adam is excited to try some of the most legendary dishes.
The episode starts with Adam visiting Primanti Bros., a Pittsburgh institution known for its signature sandwich. The sandwich is made with meat, cheese, coleslaw, and fries stuffed between two slices of Italian bread. Adam attempts to eat a giant version of the sandwich, which is almost as big as he is. The challenge is timed, and Adam has a limited amount of time to finish it. Will he be able to take on the sandwich and come out victorious?
After a successful sandwich challenge, Adam heads over to Enrico's Biscotti Company, a local bakery that's been around for over 50 years. Here, he samples some of the best biscotti in Pittsburgh, including flavors like chocolate chip, almond, and cranberry. Adam also learns about the bakery's history and meets the family who has been running it for multiple generations.
Next up, Adam visits The Church Brew Works, a former church turned brewery. The unique setting is matched by a unique dish: pierogies stuffed with brisket and smothered in a beer gravy. Adam takes on the challenge of eating as many of these pierogies as he can in a short amount of time. Will the combination of savory brisket and rich beer gravy be enough to fuel him through the challenge?
Adam's next stop is at The Oyster House, where he indulges in some of the freshest seafood in Pittsburgh. He tries their famous oyster po' boy sandwich loaded with fresh, juicy oysters, lettuce, tomato, and spicy remoulade. This challenge is different from the others, as Adam must race against the clock to see how many sandwiches he can eat in just one minute. Will he be able to handle the intensity of this speed challenge?
The episode concludes with Adam visiting the famous Primanti Bros. again, where he takes on another sandwich challenge. This time, he tries a sandwich so big that it requires two loaves of bread to hold it all. The sandwich is loaded with coleslaw, meat, cheese, tomatoes, and fries, and takes up an entire plate. Adam has a limited amount of time to eat the sandwich, and the clock is ticking.
Throughout the episode, Adam also gets to meet some of Pittsburgh's most passionate food enthusiasts and chefs. He learns about the city's unique culinary history, and discovers some hidden gems that only locals know about.
