Man Vs. Child: Chef Showdown is all about five young chefs taking on a professional chef and seeing who is the better chef. The contest is organized into three cooking contests with the last being a winner-takes-all event. The beginning two contests are usually pretty simple and result in the winner gaining an advantage for the next round. The first is usually some sort of appetizer followed by an entree on the second. A different young chef is chosen each round by the current young chef, and that chef must either decide what the specific advantage is or suffer from it, depending who won the previous round. The first two challenges are judged by the usual panel of judges while the third is judged by a celebrity chef. The five young chefs each have a different specialty and way of attacking the challenge, making each challenge unique. The advantages and disadvantages make for some interesting wrinkles in each round, ensuring that the chefs are continually challenged. Combined with the chosen ingredients and the challenges from the advantages, each show allows the chefs, both the child chefs and the challenger, to demonstrate their mastery of cooking, ensuring that each show is entertaining as well as educational.
