In M*A*S*H season 1 episode 6 titled Yankee Doodle Doctor, the war is taking a toll on the medical staff stationed at the unit. The episode opens with Frank Burns, the chief surgeon, berating Hawkeye and Trapper for playing poker instead of working. However, things soon take a turn when Frank suffers an injury and must be rushed to surgery. This is where we see Hawkeye and Trapper's true abilities shine as they focus on saving Frank's life instead of just letting him suffer.

Meanwhile, Radar is tasked with organizing a 4th of July celebration for the unit. However, the task becomes much more complicated when he is ordered to invite a group of Korean dignitaries to the party. This adds a layer of tension to the festivities as the Koreans are used to more formal and rigid celebrations than the Americans.

To make matters worse, Father Mulcahy is struggling to find a way to make the celebration meaningful for the soldiers who are missing their families back home. He ultimately decides to put on a patriotic puppet show which, despite a few mishaps, proves to be a big hit with the troops.

Although the episode takes place during wartime, the focus is on the human element and the ways in which people cope with the stress of their situation. The characters are all complex and multifaceted, with moments of humor and heartbreak throughout.

Overall, Yankee Doodle Doctor is an excellent episode which showcases the talents of the M*A*S*H cast and crew. It manages to balance humor, drama, and social commentary in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
