Ep 18. The Talented Ms. Boddicker

Allison DuBois, the titular 'medium', tries to understand the mind of a painter named Sarah Boddicker. Allison has a weird dream about Sarah in which the painter is surrounded by darkness, and she is painting in a basement with several children playing around her. Meanwhile, Sarah seems to be suffering from a mysterious illness. Allison is called in by Devalos after one of his friends knocks at their door asking for help. It turns out that the friend is Sarah's lawyer. The lawyer takes Allison to visit Sarah in the hospital.

Sarah is suffering from a serious bout of meningitis. Allison talks to Sarah, and her ghost-like appearance makes her think that Sarah has already passed away. But soon, she realizes that Sarah is still alive. Allison starts seeing flashes of Sarah's paintings in her mind. She quickly realizes that the paintings depict the deaths of the children in the dream she had about Sarah. In order to prevent these deaths, Allison must find the children from the dream and keep them safe.

Allison tracks down the house where the children live and talks to their mother, Sarah's sister. Sarah's sister is not pleased to see Allison, as she believes that Sarah is a troublemaker. Allison learns that Sarah had a troubled childhood, and she had always been averse to conforming to the established order. She also discovers that Sarah's parents forced her to undergo electroshock therapy.

Allison's other daughter, Ariel, is at odds with her at this point, as she is trying to make her own way in the world. While Allison is trying to solve the mystery of Sarah's paintings, Ariel is busy trying to create an online presence for herself. Allison tries to convince Ariel to stay home and help her save the children in the dream. But it seems like they're not on the same page. Ariel decides to go to a party, and Allison is left to solve the mystery on her own.

As Allison investigates Sarah's paintings, she realizes that there is a connection between the sickness afflicting Sarah and her paintings. Allison learns that Sarah's paintings have healing powers. She tracks Sarah's mentor down and learns that Sarah's paintings are works of genius. Sarah's mentor tells Allison that he believes Sarah has a special gift, but that her gift is not appreciated by the rest of the society.

Allison must now solve the mystery of the children in the dream while keeping them safe from harm. She is still trying to convince Ariel to come back home, and she contacts Joe, her husband, for help. In the end, Allison learns that Sarah's paintings are not prophetic, but rather symbolic. Through her art, Sarah is trying to communicate her experience of the world to others.

Allison tracks down the children in the dream and manages to save them from harm. She also learns that she is not alone, as Sarah has been watching over her all along. Allison brings Sarah's paintings into the hospital, which instantly make Sarah feel better. The episode ends on a high note as Allison, Joe, and their daughters bask in the relief of having resolved the mystery.
