Men in Trees Season 1 Episode 11 New York Fiction (Part 2)

  • December 7, 2006

Marin is still in New York, chasing down her favorite author, Jane. She is determined to convince Jane to sign a copy of her latest book for Patrick. As she navigates the crowded city streets, Marin runs into many obstacles along the way, including a lost wallet and a broken heel.

Back in Elmo, Jack is getting ready for his date with Lynn. Despite his reservations, he agrees to go out with her after a little encouragement from his friends. But their evening takes an unexpected turn when they run into Patrick and Annie at the same restaurant.

Meanwhile, the buzz around Celia and Dick's relationship is spreading throughout town. People are curious about how the two of them ended up together and seem surprised that they actually make a good couple. But with everyone talking about them, Celia begins to wonder if their newfound happiness is too good to be true.

Back in New York, Marin finally tracks down Jane at a literary event. As she waits in line to get her book signed, she strikes up a conversation with another fan who happens to work at a publishing house. The woman offers Marin some words of encouragement and hands her a business card, saying that she would be happy to take a look at her writing.

Feeling excited and inspired, Marin makes her way back to Patrick's apartment. But when she arrives, she finds that he has already left for work. Disappointed, she decides to take a walk around the city to clear her head. As she wanders through Central Park, Marin suddenly has an epiphany about her own writing and starts scribbling down notes on a napkin.

Back in Elmo, Jack and Lynn's date is going surprisingly well. They are laughing and joking and seem to genuinely enjoy each other's company. But things take a turn when Lynn mentions that she wants to take a sabbatical from work and travel the world. Jack is taken aback and doesn't know how to respond.

At the same restaurant, Patrick and Annie are having a tense conversation about Jane and Marin. Annie can't help but feel jealous of Marin's connection with Patrick and asks him point blank if he has feelings for her. Patrick denies it, but Annie isn't convinced.

Meanwhile, Celia and Dick are having a heart-to-heart about their relationship. Celia admits that she is worried about what everyone else thinks of them and wonders if they are moving too fast. But Dick is reassuring and tells her that he loves her and that's all that matters.

Back in New York, Marin finally makes it back to Patrick's apartment and excitedly tells him about her encounter with the publishing house employee. Patrick is proud of her and suggests that they celebrate with a bottle of wine. Marin agrees, but as they clink glasses, there is a moment of tension between them.

Finally, back in Elmo, Jack and Lynn are saying their goodbyes. Lynn can tell that Jack is conflicted and asks him what's wrong. Jack admits that he isn't sure if he is ready for a serious relationship and that he needs some time to figure things out. Lynn is disappointed, but she understands and tells him that she is willing to wait for him. They part on friendly terms, but Jack can't help but feel a little bit lost.

As the episode comes to a close, Marin is working on her writing, Celia and Dick are happy together, and Jack is left to ponder his future. The lives of the men (and women) in trees continue to twist and turn, as they navigate the ups and downs of love, life, and everything in between.
