Men in Trees is a romantic-comedy-drama television series which originally aired on ABC from September 2006 to June 2008. The show is set in Elmo, Alaska, where relationship coach and author Marin Frist (played by Anne Heche) finds herself stranded after her flight to Anchorage is cancelled. While waiting for the next flight out, she realizes that the small town and its quirky inhabitants might hold the answers to her own relationship troubles.

Season 1 Episode 7, titled "Ladies First," begins with Marin discussing her latest column on K-Bear, the local radio station. In her column, Marin urges women to take ownership of their desires in relationships and not wait for their partners to make the first move. This inspires the women of Elmo to organize a "Ladies First" dance where they will approach the men they are interested in asking them to dance.

Meanwhile, Marin's friend and publicist, Annie (played by Emily Bergl) arrives in town to discuss Marin's book tour. Annie is excited about the upcoming tour, but Marin is hesitant, feeling conflicted about leaving Elmo and her new relationship with local naturalist, Jack (played by James Tupper).

At the same time, Patrick (played by Derek Richardson), one of the locals who has been pursuing Marin, is struggling with his own romantic troubles. His girlfriend, Maryellen (played by Cynthia Stevenson), is tired of his immaturity and decides to break up with him. However, Patrick is convinced that he can win her back if he just has more money, so he takes on various odd jobs around town to save up enough cash for a special surprise.

As the night of the dance approaches, the women of Elmo are nervous about asking the men to dance. Theresa (played by Sarah Strange), who has feelings for Ben (played by Abraham Benrubi), is worried that he might take her asking him to dance the wrong way. And Marin is conflicted about attending the dance with Jack, as she is still unsure about their relationship.

When the night of the dance arrives, the women of Elmo gather at the local community center, dressed to impress and ready to ask the men they desire to dance. The men are surprised but pleased by the attention, and soon the dance floor is filled with happy couples.

As the night goes on, Marin and Jack have a heart-to-heart conversation about their relationship. Marin expresses her concerns about leaving Elmo and the possibility of a long-distance relationship. Jack reassures her that they can make it work and the two share a romantic dance together.

Meanwhile, Patrick's plan to win back Maryellen is revealed: he has bought her a new car. Maryellen is taken aback by the grand gesture, but ultimately decides that she needs someone who is more emotionally mature.

The episode ends with Marin and Annie discussing Marin's book tour. Marin decides to postpone the tour and stay in Elmo with Jack, realizing that she has found something special in the small town.

Overall, "Ladies First" is a heartwarming and uplifting episode that highlights the importance of taking risks in love, and the value of small town community and support.
