It was a typical day for Moesha when her dad finally decided to go back to work. Frank decides to pay more attention to his daughter by he takes up the role of the driving instructor for Moesha. As soon as he said that, Moesha felt total dread as she feared the worst. She knew that Frank was somewhat uptight and that it wouldn't be a smooth ride with him behind the wheel. As soon as Frank gets Moesha on the driver's seat, it was evident that the tension between them was high, and hilarity ensues. Moesha is put in a position where she goes through the highs and lows of emotions with each mistake Frank points out. At first, it starts with simple instructions, but soon they take a back seat to Frank's growing demand and assertiveness. Stress levels rise and Moesha struggles to keep up. She's following every instruction to the letter, which serves as comic relief, as she tries hard to please her dad.
As the lesson continues, Moesha's stress levels grow, and the situation piques when she accidentally scratches the car. Moesha now has to deal with an even angrier dad. She ends up driving the car onto the sidewalk, to which Frank's reaction goes from yelling to sheer terror. What follows is one of the most hilarious moments of the show where Frank takes the extreme, in yelling at a driver behind him who won't let him cut back into traffic. All the while, Moesha sits in the driver's seat, petrified at the chaotic situation happening outside.
Fortunately, the aunties come to the rescue, armed with Dave's lessons and driving expertise. Moesha gets all the help she needs, and the ladies quickly calm Frank down. With Dave's help, Moesha eventually managed to get his driver's license, which puts Frank's mind at ease.
As was the case with previous episodes, Moesha's humor, wit, and growing pains serve as the show's backbone. The show relies on recurring gags, that are executed well and provide excellent comedic moments. Unlike other shows that darkly touch on real-life issues, Moesha brings a light, funny side to family life, and implementing morals that people can use in their day-to-day lives.
Overall, Driving Miss Moesha is a great episode that highlights some of the stresses and tensions that come with the driving instructor's father role. Though the themes of family and learning the value of hard work are common, Friendship and loyalty are key to the show's script, as the aunties always come through to help Moesha when she needs it most.
If you're looking for something fun, uplifting, and with moments of real-life value, look no further than the nostalgia-filled series Moesha.
