Star Trek: Short Treks is a television series that was released by CBS All Access. It is a spin-off of the popular Star Trek: Discovery series and features four stand-alone episodes. Each episode is between ten and fifteen minutes long and explores a different aspect of the Star Trek universe. The show features various characters from the Star Trek universe such as Saru, Harry Mudd, and Tilly. The first episode, titled "Runaway," stars Mary Wiseman as Tilly. In this episode, Tilly meets a stowaway on her ship and they work together to prevent a disaster. The second episode, "Calypso," follows the character of Craft (played by Aldis Hodge) who wakes up on a deserted spaceship with no memory of how he got there. He spends the episode exploring the ship and interacting with its AI system, Zora. The third episode, "The Brightest Star," tells the backstory of Saru (played by Doug Jones) and his life on his home planet before he joined Starfleet. It explores the cultural differences between his planet and the Federation. The final episode, "The Escape Artist," sees the return of Harry Mudd (played by Rainn Wilson) as he tries to escape captivity from the Federation. The production values of the show are top-notch, with excellent special effects and impressive sets. The show manages to pack a lot of action, drama, and intrigue into its short episodes. It is clear that the showrunners gave each episode plenty of attention and care, despite their short length. The show also manages to explore various themes that are relevant to the Star Trek universe. For example, "Calypso" explores the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence, while "The Brightest Star" examines the concept of cultural identity. Overall, Star Trek: Short Treks is an excellent addition to the Star Trek universe. Despite its short runtime, the show manages to deliver compelling stories and explore interesting themes. Fans of the franchise will not be disappointed.
