Tom Corman is a fifth-grade teacher who is struggling with anxiety, loneliness, and unfulfilled dreams. After a rough day at work and a disappointing encounter with a former flame, Tom's anxiety reaches a breaking point. He becomes convinced that he has contracted a life-threatening illness and begins to spiral into panic.
Desperate for answers, Tom turns to his long-time friend and roommate, Victor, who is a nurse. Victor tries to reassure Tom, but his words fall on deaf ears as Tom continues to obsess over his symptoms. Tom's anxiety escalates to the point where he seeks out a street vendor who sells natural remedies for illnesses.
Meanwhile, at school, Tom struggles to connect with his students, including a young boy who is dealing with the loss of his father. Tom tries to relate to the boy's grief but finds it difficult to do so, as he is consumed by his own worries.
As the day progresses, Tom's panic grows more intense. He begins to experience physical symptoms that he believes confirm his worst fears. However, when he goes to the emergency room, he realizes that his symptoms were caused by something completely different.
Through his ordeal, Tom realizes that he needs to confront the underlying issues that are fueling his anxiety. He opens up to his therapist about the source of his stress and acknowledges that he needs to take steps to address it.
In the end, Tom emerges from his panic attack with a newfound sense of clarity and resolve. He is ready to face his fears and take control of his life – one step at a time.
