In the 23rd episode of Mushi-Shi (Original Japanese Version) season 1, titled "The Sound of Rust," viewers are taken on a journey to a small village nestled within a forest. The village is home to a unique form of metalworking that has been passed down for generations. However, the village is facing a peculiar problem; the sound of rust is everywhere.

The village's blacksmith, Taku, has noticed that the metal they use to craft their tools has been rusting at an alarming rate. After testing out various metals and techniques, Taku is unable to come up with a solution, which prompts him to ask Ginko for help.

Upon his arrival, Ginko starts his investigation by examining the rusted metal pieces. It doesn't take long for him to deduce that the rust is actually a result of a Mushi, one that feeds on metal. Ginko identifies the Mushi as Jorōgumo, a spider-like creature that is often associated with metalwork. He informs Taku that the Jorōgumo requires iron to survive and is probably attracted to the village because of the heavy use of iron in their trade.

As Ginko continues his investigation, he starts to unravel the villagers' past and the significance of their metalworking in the village's traditions. Though the villagers had always been aware of the Mushi, they had thought it to be harmless until now.

With the help of Taku, Ginko devises a plan to lure the Jorōgumo away from the village and into a nearby lake. The success of their plan brings a newfound sense of relief to the villagers, and Taku is able to continue his metalworking without any interference from the Mushi.

While the rusty sound may have disappeared, what remains in the village is an appreciation for their craft and the knowledge that they need to maintain a balance with nature to preserve their way of life.

"The Sound of Rust" is a thoughtful episode that explores the delicate balance between human culture and the natural world. The episode also highlights the importance of understanding and respecting the workings of nature. Through Ginko's investigation, viewers are given a glimpse into the unique relationship that humans have with Mushi, and how a simple balance can be disrupted so easily. The episode subtly reminds viewers of the repercussions that can be faced when taking nature for granted. Overall, "The Sound of Rust" is a well-paced and thought-provoking episode that is a must-watch for fans of Mushi-Shi.
