"Pat XO" is an episode of the ESPN documentary series Nine for IX, which explores the impact of Title IX on women's sports. The episode chronicles the life and career of Pat Summitt, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Tennessee, and her impact on the sport of women's basketball.

The episode begins with a look at Summitt's childhood and early basketball career. Summitt grew up on a farm in Tennessee and was introduced to basketball by her father, a high school basketball coach. She played in high school and went on to play at the University of Tennessee-Martin, where she set records and served as team captain.

After graduating, Summitt returned to her hometown of Clarksville, Tennessee, to coach basketball at her old high school. She quickly made a name for herself as a tough, demanding coach, pushing her players to be their best both on and off the court.

In 1974, at the age of just 22, Summitt was offered the head coaching job at the University of Tennessee. She accepted despite the fact that the program was in disarray and had never had a winning season. Summitt immediately set to work building a competitive team, recruiting talented players and implementing her signature hard-nosed coaching style.

Over the course of her 38-year career at Tennessee, Summitt became one of the most successful coaches in the history of women's basketball, leading the Lady Vols to 8 national championships and 1,098 wins - more than any other coach in Division I basketball, male or female. She also became a beloved figure in Tennessee, revered for her unwavering dedication to her players and the sport she loved.

But Summitt's legacy extends far beyond the basketball court. As a coach, she was a fierce advocate for gender equality and Title IX, which mandated equal opportunities for women in sports and education. She fought tirelessly to ensure that her players had access to the same resources and opportunities as their male counterparts, and she inspired a generation of women to pursue their dreams and break down barriers.

Sadly, Summitt's life was cut short in 2016 when she passed away at the age of 64 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. But her impact on women's basketball and women's sports as a whole continues to be felt to this day, and her legacy serves as an inspiration to athletes and coaches everywhere.

"Pat XO" is a touching tribute to a true icon of women's sports. Through interviews with Summitt's family, friends, and former players, as well as extensive archival footage, the episode offers a moving account of her life and career. It's a must-watch for anyone who loves basketball and appreciates the importance of female role models in sports.
