One on One season 5 episode 17, titled "Recipe For Disaster", centers around Breanna's attempts to help her father, Flex, cook a meal for a date he's invited over. Flex is a bit apprehensive, as he hasn't cooked in a while, and isn't sure if he remembers how to whip up a good dish. Breanna, who is excited about seeing her dad get back into the dating world, offers to help him come up with a recipe and cook the meal.
The two settle on a plan to make salmon with a side of risotto, which sounds delicious but proves to be quite tricky to make. They start off by attempting to make the salmon, but encounter difficulty when Flex realizes that he forgot to defrost the fish. They immediately scramble to find a solution, calling up convenience stores and supermarkets to see if they have any in stock, but to no avail. Eventually, Flex decides to try and cook the salmon without defrosting it first, which they both agree is not the best idea but they have no choice.
Next up is the risotto, which involves a lot of stirring and requires consistent attention. Breanna takes the reins for this dish, but she struggles with it and ends up burning the bottom of the pot. Meanwhile, Flex tries to get the salmon cooking, but he doesn't have a proper frying pan and ends up using a regular pot. This doesn't work out too well, as the salmon sticks to the pot and starts falling apart.
As they continue to cook, things continue to go downhill. They run out of a key ingredient for the risotto, and have to improvise with something else. This ends up throwing off the entire dish, and it ends up being way too salty. Disaster strikes again when Breanna accidentally spills some red pepper flakes onto the salmon, leaving it way too spicy and overwhelming.
Despite all the setbacks, Breanna and Flex refuse to give up. They try their best to fix their mistakes and salvage the meal, even resorting to some creative techniques like blending the risotto to make it smoother. In the end, while the meal may not have turned out as expected, they succeed in making something that's edible and presentable.
As they sit down to eat their creation, they both agree that the meal may not have been perfect, but the experience itself was priceless. They both discover that the real recipe for a good time is trying something new and having fun in the process, even if things don't go as planned.
