As people start to testify against Pablo Escobar, the drug lord gets desperate to keep his Empire from crumbling. He joins forces with drug lord Gilberto Molina who agrees to help him with his legal troubles. Meanwhile, new alliances start to form against Pablo Escobar, including one between DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña and the Colombian National Police. Together, they attempt to find the evidence they need to put Pablo behind bars.

The episode "Tras las huellas de los criminales" (Following the Criminal's Footsteps) starts off with a flashback to Pablo's childhood. A young Pablo is seen stealing from a neighbor's house and being caught by his mother, who punishes him severely. This encounter seems to have scarred Pablo for life and may have contributed to his disregard for authority and the law.

Back in the present, Gilberto Molina meets with Pablo and promises to help him out with his legal troubles. They strike a deal that allows Gilberto to use one of Pablo's cocaine labs in exchange for his assistance. Gilberto's goal is to become the new drug lord of Colombia and he sees this as an opportunity to expand his empire.

Meanwhile, Steve and Javier continue their investigation and track down a witness who saw one of Pablo's men murder a government official. They also uncover the location of one of Pablo's safe houses and decide to raid it. However, Pablo gets wind of their plans and tells Gilberto to expect an attack. Gilberto in turn informs his own men, who are waiting for the DEA and Colombian National Police when they arrive.

The raid turns into a battle as the DEA and police fight against Gilberto's men. During the chaos, one of Gilberto's lieutenants is captured and interrogated. He reveals the location of one of Gilberto's cocaine labs, which Steve and Javier decide to raid next.

The episode ends with Pablo desperately trying to hold onto his empire as more and more people betray him. He knows that his days are numbered and that he must do everything in his power to stay out of prison. The hunt for Pablo Escobar continues, but the drug lord is always one step ahead of his enemies.
