When May meets up with her rival Drew on Chrysanthemum Island, she asks him about the "secret admirer" letter she received, but it turns out he didn't send it. The writer is a young Coordinator named Brianna, who admired May's performance in the Wisteria Contest...and who has quite a thing for Drew! She promises to defeat May to prove herself to him. Team Rocket's Jessie borrows Mime Jr. to enter the contest as "Fessie," but when she goes up against May and Combusken in the second round, she gets knocked out. May and Brianna meet up in the finals, where Combusken rises to new heights of battle skill and knocks Vibrava out after learning a new attack! May wins her third Kanto Contest Ribbon...and a new friend and rival in Brianna, who is utterly delighted when Drew shows up with praise for her performance in her first contest!
