Pokemon the Series Season 1 Episode 80 A Friend In Deed
- January 7, 1999
Ash and his friends arrive at Fuchsia City, ready to take on Koga, the Gym Leader. However, they find that the Gym is nowhere to be found. After some investigation, they discover that Koga has disguised his Gym as a ninja training school.
While trying to figure out how to get inside, they come across Aya, a young girl who seems to know Koga and is desperate to become his apprentice. Aya is convinced that if she can prove her worth to Koga, he will take her under his wing. She asks the group to help her get into the disguised Gym so she can finally make her dream come true.
Ash and his friends agree to help Aya out. They come up with a plan to sneak into the Gym by disguising themselves as ninja trainees. Aya proves to be an invaluable asset, showing them the ropes and helping them pass Koga's rigorous tests.
As they progress through the Gym's challenges, they begin to suspect that something isn't quite right. The tests seem unnecessarily dangerous, and Koga's demands become more and more extreme. Aya seems to be the only one who doesn't notice anything amiss.
Eventually, the group confronts Koga and discovers that Aya is actually the Gym Leader's daughter. Koga has been putting her through these tough trials in an attempt to push her to her limits and make her a capable ninja in her own right. Aya is heartbroken to learn that her father has been using her, but Koga insists that it was all for her own good.
The group tries to convince Koga to see things from Aya's perspective – that she wants to be a ninja, but not at the cost of her own safety. They also try to convince Aya that she's capable of being a great ninja without her father's tough love. In the end, Koga relents and agrees to let Aya train under him in a safer environment.
The episode ends on a positive note, with the group heading off to their next adventure and Aya looking forward to her future as a ninja.
