Ash, Pikachu, May, and Max arrive at Chrysanthemum Island, where fire-spewing Chimney Mountain is located. They are about to participate in a poetry competition, as part of the islanders' annual celebration. Jessie, James, and Meowth of Team Rocket also arrived on the island, but they have a different plan in mind. They will steal the islanders' Pokemon using a giant vacuum cleaner, disguised as a tool to help clean the town.

As Ash and his friends walk around the town, they come across a girl named Lily. She tells them she is a poet and that she is participating in the competition. However, she is struggling to come up with a poem on time. Ash offers to help her out, and the group begins to come up with ideas for her poem.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket is hiding by the town's water tower, putting the finishing touches on their vacuum cleaner. They can't wait to capture all the Pokemon on the island.

Back at the competition, Ash, Pikachu, May, and Max cheer Lily on as she performs her Pokemon-themed poem. The crowd loves it, and she receives high marks from the judges. However, as the competition continues, Lily's nerves start to get the best of her, and she loses her confidence.

Team Rocket is ready to put their plan into action, and they activate the vacuum cleaner, quickly sucking up all the Pokemon in the town. Ash and his friends quickly realize what is happening, and they spring into action to stop Team Rocket.

Ash battles Team Rocket, while May and Max activate the town's loudspeaker system to alert the islanders of what is going on.
