Along the way, they stumble upon a Wailmer stuck in a small lake and struggling to breathe. Instinctively, Ash and Pikachu jump in to help the Pokémon. They soon realize that the Wailmer is stuck in a trap laid out by Team Rocket.
Ash and Pikachu try to free the Wailmer, but it seems like a futile attempt. However, they soon get help from a group of water Pokémon who show up on the scene. Together, they manage to break open the trap and free the Wailmer.
The group then comes across a woman named Maxie, who is looking for a rare and valuable Poliwag. Maxie tells Ash and his friends that she is a Pokémon Ranger, is on a mission to save the Poliwag from a group of poachers. She explains that the Poachers are after the Poliwag's special power, which they will use for their own evil intentions.
Ash and the gang agree to help Maxie and set out to find the Poliwag. They soon meet the Poliwag, who is being held captive by the poachers. They try to rescue the Poliwag, but the poachers put up a fight. During the commotion, the Poliwag manages to escape and uses its special ability to create a thick fog, making it hard for everyone to see.
Ash and his friends take this opportunity to rescue the Poliwag. They soon find the Poliwag, but Team Rocket shows up again and tries to steal it. Ash and Pikachu work together to defeat Team Rocket and their Pokémon, allowing Maxie to safely rescue the Poliwag.
Afterward, Maxie thanks Ash and his friends for their heroic act. She reveals that the Poliwag's special power is called "Rain Dance," which can summon rain and heal any Pokémon's injuries. In appreciation of their help, Maxie gives Ash and his friends a special Pokémon Ranger Medal.
As the group resumes their journey to the Battle Dome, Ash and Pikachu reflect back on their brave act of helping the Wailmer and saving the Poliwag. They realize that there are always Pokémon in need, and they must continue to help them whenever possible.
