Ep 2. Charged

Sam Oliver is a young man who discovers on his 21st birthday that his parents sold his soul to the devil before he was born. As a result, he is now forced to work as a bounty hunter for the devil, collecting souls that have escaped hell. In episode two of Season 1, titled "Charged," Sam is tasked with tracking down a soul named Alan Townsend who was a crooked cop in life and has been evading capture in death.

The episode begins with Sam and his best friend and fellow Reaper, Bert "Sock" Wysocki, brainstorming ways to find Townsend. Their conversation is interrupted when Sam's mother calls and berates him for not having a job. Sam lies and says he has landed a job at the nearby Work Bench, a home improvement store, to avoid her wrath.

Sam and Sock then visit a televangelist who claims to be able to communicate with the dead. They hope to find information from the recently deceased on Townsend's whereabouts. However, the televangelist turns out to be a phony and Sam and Sock leave empty-handed.

Meanwhile, Sam's new girlfriend, Andi Prendergast, notices a strange tattoo on his chest, which she recognizes as the symbol of the Devil. She confronts him, but Sam denies knowing anything about it and brushes off her concerns.

Sam finally gets a lead on Townsend's location and goes to apprehend him. However, Townsend is able to electrocute Sam and escape. When Sam wakes up, the Devil appears to him and explains that since he no longer has a soul, he is immune to physical damage. However, he can be harmed by anything electrical.

Sam and Sock come up with a plan to use an electrocution trap to subdue Townsend. They lure him into a laundromat and use a faulty outlet to electrocute him. The plan works, and they successfully capture Townsend, but not before Sam is nearly killed.

As the episode ends, we see Sam and Andi bonding over his truthful admission about how he ended up working for the Devil. He even tells her the truth about his next assignment – collecting the soul of a beloved television weatherman.

Overall, "Charged" is a thrilling episode that highlights Sam's struggle to balance his new role as a Reaper with his normal life. It showcases the show's unique blend of humor, drama, and supernatural elements. The storyline keeps the audience engaged with a combination of action-packed scenes, character development, and unexpected twists.
