Sam Oliver is a typical 21-year-old who is leading a double life as a reaper after his parents sold his soul to the devil before he was born. In Reaper season 2 episode 4 named "The Favorite," Sam, along with his friends and co-reapers, Sock and Ben, must capture a soul that has escaped from hell.
The soul they are tasked with capturing is that of Tony, the favorite demon of the devil, played by actor Ken Marino. Tony is a smooth-talking, sharp-dressing demon who has always been the one on the inside track for promotions and special assignments. However, Tony has gone rogue and is working to get his revenge on the devil by stealing valuable artifacts from hell.
Our heroes are tasked with tracking down Tony and returning him to hell before any of the stolen items can be used against them. To make matters worse, Tony has been working with a group of people who know about the existence of demons and have been helping him steal the artifacts.
The episode takes place primarily at a fundraiser being hosted by the group of people that Tony has been working with. Sam, Sock, and Ben attend the fundraiser in order to find Tony and his accomplices. While at the fundraiser, they run into a number of obstacles, including confrontations with people who know about their true identities as reapers.
As the episode progresses, Sam finds himself in a difficult situation when he is forced to choose between his loyalty to the devil and his feelings for his girlfriend, Andi. Andi has been working at the fundraiser, and Sam must decide whether or not to reveal his true identity to her in order to get her help with the case.
Overall, "The Favorite" is a fast-paced and action-packed episode that further develops the dynamic between Sam, Sock, and Ben as they continue their work as reapers. With appearances by several guest stars, including Ken Marino, the episode offers a fresh and exciting take on the demon-hunting genre. Fans of the show will not be disappointed by the twists and turns that occur throughout the hour-long episode.
