In Reasonable Doubt season 1 episode 8, titled Flesh and Blood, we follow the case of a young man named Ronnie Long, who was convicted of rape and burglary in 1976 in North Carolina. Despite maintaining his innocence throughout his trial and appeal process, Ronnie was sentenced to 80 years in prison. Now, over 40 years later, retired homicide detective Chris Anderson and criminal defense attorney Fatima Silva take on Ronnie's case in an attempt to uncover new evidence that could prove his innocence.

As Anderson and Silva begin digging into the case, they discover that Ronnie's initial conviction was based on the testimony of one key eyewitness, a white woman who claimed that she saw Ronnie as he broke into her home and sexually assaulted her. However, as Anderson and Silva interview this witness, they begin to uncover a number of inconsistencies in her story, including changes in her physical description of the perpetrator, and discrepancies in the time at which she claimed the assault occurred.

As they continue their investigation, Anderson and Silva also learn about other potential suspects who were never thoroughly investigated at the time of Ronnie's conviction. They interview former law enforcement officials and community members who suggest that racial bias and a rush to judgment may have played a role in Ronnie's conviction.

One particularly poignant moment in the episode involves Anderson and Silva's visit to Ronnie's mother, who has been fighting for her son's freedom for decades. As she recounts the toll that Ronnie's incarceration has taken on their family, we begin to understand the human cost of wrongful convictions and the importance of seeking justice for those who have been wrongfully convicted.

As the episode draws to a close, Anderson and Silva present their findings to Ronnie's legal team, who vow to continue fighting for his release. While the ultimate outcome of Ronnie's case remains uncertain, Flesh and Blood highlights the important role that investigative teams like Anderson and Silva can play in uncovering new evidence and challenging wrongful convictions.
