Ep 5. Surprise

In the fourth season of Reba, episode 5 entitled "Surprise", Reba (Reba McEntire) plans a surprise birthday party for Kyra (Scarlett Pomers). The task is easier said than done as Reba struggles to keep the party a secret from everyone. She enlists the help of Barbra Jean (Melissa Peterman) to distract Kyra, while she and her friend Lori (guest star Park Overall) work on the preparations.

Meanwhile, Van (Steve Howey) and Cheyenne (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) are having marital issues related to their money. They owe their parents rent money and cannot afford to pay it on time. Van is offered a job as a bull fighter, but Cheyenne does not want him to take it as it is dangerous. The couple struggles to find a solution to their financial problems.

Brock (Christopher Rich) and Barbra Jean's relationship is also on the rocks as Brock's ex-wife BJ (guest star Reba McEntire) attempts to come back into his life. BJ begs for forgiveness for cheating on him and wants to make amends. Barbra Jean struggles with the idea and doesn't know how to move forward.

As the day of Kyra's party approaches, Reba and Lori work to keep everything organized while hiding it from Kyra. The surprise is ruined when Kyra comes home early and accidentally walks in on them. The party is still a success, but Kyra is not thrilled with all the attention she is getting.

The episode ends with Van taking the job as a bull fighter without telling Cheyenne. Brock agrees to meet with BJ to talk things out, despite Barbra Jean's reservations.
