Reggie Perrin is a British sitcom that aired from 2009 to 2010. The show stars Martin Clunes as Reggie Perrin, a sales executive who is unhappy with his life and job. The series is a remake of a 1970s sitcom of the same name. In season 1 episode 1, titled "Episode 1," we are introduced to Reggie Perrin and his mundane life.

Reggie is a mid-level executive at Groomtech, a company that sells personal grooming products. He is married to Nicola (Fay Ripley), a woman who is obsessed with her own self-image. Reggie is also unhappy with his job and feels unfulfilled in his personal life. As the episode begins, Reggie is shown commuting to work on a packed train. He is frustrated by the lack of personal space and people talking loudly on their mobile phones.

At work, Reggie is in a boring meeting with his boss Chris (Neil Stuke) and the other executives at Groomtech. They are discussing new product ideas, but Reggie is not interested. He doodles on a notepad and zones out. After the meeting, Chris congratulates Reggie on his notepad doodles, which he thinks are new product ideas. Reggie is embarrassed and doesn't correct him.

Back at home, Nicola is obsessing over her appearance and trying on different outfits. Reggie tries to talk to her, but she seems more interested in herself. She eventually comes downstairs for dinner, but their conversation is strained and awkward.

Reggie's day doesn't get any better when he goes to the doctor for a check-up. The doctor (Geoffrey Whitehead) is gruff and dismissive of Reggie's concerns. He tells Reggie that he is perfectly healthy and that his issues are all in his head.

Feeling lost and hopeless, Reggie goes for a walk in the park. He ends up at a pond where he meets a woman named Jasmine (Lucy Liemann). They strike up a conversation, and Jasmine seems to understand Reggie in a way that no one else does. She encourages him to follow his passions and find ways to make himself happy.

The episode ends with Reggie returning home and finding Nicola in bed with her personal trainer. He storms out of the house and decides to take Jasmine's advice. He quits his job, sells his possessions, and starts living life on his own terms.

"Episode 1" sets the tone for the rest of the series, as Reggie tries to find meaning and fulfillment in his life. The show is a commentary on modern society and the pressure people feel to conform to societal norms. It explores themes of identity, mental health, and relationships in a humorous and relatable way. Martin Clunes delivers a strong performance as Reggie, portraying both his frustration and his determination to break free from his monotonous life. Overall, "Episode 1" is an entertaining and thought-provoking start to an excellent sitcom.
