- 8 Seasons
The television series entitled George Gently is also known by some people as Inspector George gently due to its origin. The series was all about the involvements of a certain detective who was considered as being of the old-school simply because he was very dedicated, hardworking and passionate about his job as he was trained at the time unlike the present situation whereby police officers could hardly be differentiated from criminals. He had a hard time handling the pathetic situation. The very first episode of the series started when the inspector decided to retire from service following the death of his wife Isabella who was murdered by a driver who ran over her and ran off. Just after that he found out about the death of a certain Johnny in the same manner as his wife and also that the guy who was suspected of causing his wife's death was in the locality where Johnny had died he changed his mind about retiring. He then relocated alongside his close colleague John Bacchus to that area to investigate Johnny's death. However when he got there he found out the same guy Webster who he suspected for killing Isabella was also carrying out investigations about the same case. The next series of episodes that followed in the series were all about the inspector setting out investigations about various crimes committed in relation to killings, theft, abductions, child trafficking and suicide cases as well. The idea behind the series was developed by Peter Flannery and Mick Ford based on inspirations they got from one of Alan Hunter's novels on Inspector Gently. The fifteen episode series was produced by Company Pictures and aired on the British Broadcasting Corporation. The entire series with all episodes is available on DVD and is distributed in many countries of the world. The characters in the series included Martin Shaw who featured as George Gently, Lee Ingleby featuring as Sergeant John Bacchus and Simon Hubbard as Taylor .
