Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 1 Episode 9 The Meaning of Courage

Subaru is awoken by a knock on his door, which turns out to be Emilia requesting his help with something. She reveals that Felt has stolen her insignia, which is an important emblem all candidates are supposed to have during the king's selection to verify their lineage. If Emilia doesn't have it when the selection ceremony takes place, she will be disqualified, effectively ending her chances at becoming queen. Subaru hesitantly agrees to help, believing that he'll be able to use his knowledge from his previous lives to get the insignia back.

After a bit of investigating, Subaru and Emilia track Felt down and attempt to reason with her. However, Felt is not interested in returning the insignia as it is her ticket to freedom and a better life. She also reveals that she was the one who sold the fake insignia that caused Emilia to get in trouble earlier. As they talk, Elsa, the assassin who attacked Subaru in a previous loop, appears and confronts them. Subaru tries to reason with her as well, but Elsa is set on killing them all to get the insignia for herself.

A perilous battle ensues, with Elsa's ability to manipulate shadows making it difficult for Subaru and Emilia to find and attack her. However, Subaru manages to come up with a plan that involves baiting Elsa into a trap. After a drawn-out fight, they manage to defeat Elsa and force her to retreat.

Reunited with her insignia, Emilia is finally able to participate in the selection ceremony. However, she is quickly targeted by the other candidates who see her as an easy target due to her kindness and perceived weakness. Subaru tries to support her as best he can, but it quickly becomes apparent that Emilia is not cut out for the politicking and backstabbing of the selection process. Subaru catches her crying after a particularly bad interaction with another candidate, and he reflects on the meaning of courage and how it doesn't always manifest itself in traditional ways. The episode ends with Subaru reaffirming his resolve to help Emilia in any way he can.
