A spin-off to Logo's popular RuPaul's Drag Race, RuPaul's Drag U, or Drag University, is a show where real women learn how to find their inner diva. Each episode features three women who, for various reasons, want to learn to become more fabulous. Episodes typically have a theme, such as military women, those who have lost a loved one, or those who have not dated for several years. There are several different mentors that rotate appear in various episodes, chosen from former Drag Race contestants that are based in the Los Angeles area (where the show is filmed). RuPaul assigns a mentor to each woman, and uses the Dragulator to show what each of them would look like when done up like a Queen. Mentors talk to the women to learn what may have caused them to wind up on the show, dress them in fabulous dresses, with high heels, make-up, wigs, and jewelery. Prior to commercial breaks, different drag queens will appear with Drag Tips, a segment that provides quick, helpful tips to every day women (and men). There is then a competition, complete with lip syncing, where the women are judged and given a D.P.A., or Drag Point Average, based on overall drag transformation, performance, and attitude adjustment. There is a three judge panel including RuPaul, Lady Bunny (also a drag queen), and several rotating guest judges. The contestants' friends and families are invited tp the competition and often comment on the overall transformation. Viewers watch these women go from drab, quiet, and unassuming to fabulous divas with attitude. The winner gets a cash prize of just over $3,000, and all three contestants get a well-deserved and hard-earned boost of self-confidence.
