In the first episode of Stone House Revival, host Jeff Devlin takes on the renovation of a historic stone house in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The house was built in the 1700s and is in dire need of restoration. Jeff's task is to bring the old home back to life while preserving its history and adding modern amenities.
The episode starts with Jeff giving a quick tour of the home's exterior and interior, showing the viewers its fascinating architecture and features. Jeff then shares his plan for the first two rooms he's going to work on, the master bedroom, and the library. He wants to convert the library into a more modern and functional space while maintaining its original charm. The master bedroom, on the other hand, needs a complete overhaul.
The first challenge Jeff faces is that the house has no central air conditioning. Temperatures can rise to unbearable levels in the summer, which is why Jeff wants to install an HVAC system in the library and the master bedroom. After getting approval from the homeowners, Jeff calls in the experts to install the system.
With air conditioning in place, Jeff starts working on the library. He removes the old wallpaper and discovers a beautiful original stone wall behind it. He cleans up the stones and decides to showcase them by painting the surrounding walls a light grey color. Jeff also adds new built-in bookshelves and a custom-made desk with a gorgeous wood top. He finishes the look by adding new flooring made of reclaimed pine.
Next up is the master bedroom, which needs a complete renovation. Jeff tears out the old carpet, and the subfloor beneath it is in terrible condition. He replaces it with new boards and installs new hardwood flooring throughout. Jeff also puts in a new closet and then moves on to the wall where the bed will be situated. After investigating, he discovers that the wall is not straight due to the house settling over time. Jeff decides to leave it as is and paint it a dark gray color to give it a unique look.
The room was very low on closet space, so Jeff gets creative and designs a custom bunk bed with a built-in closet underneath. He installs new lighting and finishes the room with some new decorative elements. The result is a stylish, modern, and comfortable master bedroom.
Throughout the episode, Jeff emphasizes the importance of preserving the historical integrity of the stone house. He does this by using reclaimed materials and adding modern features that blend in seamlessly with the house's original features.
In the end, Jeff has transformed the master bedroom and library into two stunning spaces, both historically charming and fully functional for a modern family. The homeowners are thrilled with the outcome.
The first episode of Stone House Revival sets the tone for the rest of the series, showcasing Jeff's expertise in restoring historic homes while preserving their character.
