Street Science is a science show that takes science experiments to a whole new level. The show features host Kevin Delaney as he conducts experiments right on the streets of America that will blow your mind. In season 2, episode 10 titled "Masters of Fire," Kevin focuses on the science behind fire.

The episode begins with Kevin meeting up with a group of firefighters to learn about the gear they use to fight fires and the science behind how they work. Kevin soon learns that fire is a very complex chemical reaction that involves oxygen, fuel, and heat. To illustrate this, Kevin performs an experiment where he mixes several chemicals to create a fireball. He explains that the reaction is similar to what happens in a fire and that it is difficult to control.

Next, Kevin meets up with a chef who is a master at cooking food with fire. Kevin explains that cooking with fire is a science because it involves understanding the chemical reactions that occur when heat is applied to certain food items. The chef demonstrates how to cook a ribeye steak using a blowtorch, and Kevin explains how the heat from the blowtorch activates the proteins in the steak, causing it to brown and develop a crispy exterior.

Later in the episode, Kevin meets up with a group of pyrotechnicians who specialize in creating fireworks displays. Kevin explains that fireworks are essentially chemical reactions that are carefully controlled to create bright colors and patterns in the sky. To demonstrate this, Kevin creates a simple fireworks display using a few chemicals and a sparkler.

Finally, Kevin meets up with a group of blacksmiths who are masters at working with fire and metal. Kevin explains that blacksmithing is an ancient craft that involves heating metal to very high temperatures to make it malleable and easier to shape. The blacksmiths demonstrate how to create a metal sculpture using a forge and hammer, and Kevin explains the chemical reactions that occur during the heating and cooling process.

Throughout the episode, Kevin explains the science behind fire and how it has been harnessed for a variety of purposes throughout history. He also shows how dangerous fire can be when it is not properly controlled. "Masters of Fire" is a fascinating episode that showcases the science behind one of the most powerful forces on earth.
