The Good Wife is a legal and political drama series which is set in Chicago. It stars Julianna Margulies in the lead role of Alicia Florrick, a woman who has to return to work as a lawyer after her husband, a prominent politician, is caught in a sex and corruption scandal. The second season of the show begins with the episode named Taking Control.

The episode starts with the firm of Stern, Lockhart & Gardner going through major changes. This is the result of the departure of one senior partner and the arrival of two new ones. This leads to a lot of speculation and gossip within the office which creates a sense of unease. Alicia, as always, tries to maintain her composure and focus on her job.

Meanwhile, Alicia is also trying to deal with her personal life. Her husband, Peter Florrick, who was jailed in the previous season, is now out on parole. This has led to a lot of awkwardness in their relationship and Alicia is trying hard to navigate it. In addition, Alicia’s children are also having a tough time adjusting to their father’s return and this has added to her stress.

A new case comes up when Alicia is asked by her son’s school to represent the mother of a boy who has been expelled. This case sets the tone for the rest of the episode, which highlights the importance of taking control of one’s life.

The episode explores the theme of control from various angles. Firstly, it deals with the changes happening at the law firm and how the characters try to maintain their power amidst the chaos. Secondly, it delves into Alicia’s personal life and how she tries to control the situation with her husband and children. Thirdly, the case Alicia takes on is all about a woman trying to regain control over her son’s education.

As the episode progresses, Alicia becomes more confident in all aspects of her life. She takes control of the changes at work by confronting the new partners and asserting her position. She also makes an effort to communicate with her husband and children in a more open and honest way. This leads to some progress in her personal relationships.

In terms of the case, Alicia is able to successfully represent the mother of the boy who has been expelled. However, this victory was not just due to her legal prowess. It was also because she was able to understand the mother’s situation and empathize with her. In doing so, Alicia gave the mother the support she needed to take control of her life and fight for her son’s future.

The episode ends with Alicia seemingly in a better place than where she started. She has taken control of the various aspects of her life and is moving forward with newfound confidence. This sets the tone for the rest of the season which promises to be filled with more legal and personal challenges for Alicia and the other characters.

Overall, Taking Control is a strong opening episode for the second season of The Good Wife. It does a great job of setting up the themes and conflicts that will be explored in the rest of the season. The episode also showcases the strength of the show’s writing and acting, which continues to be a highlight of the series. Fans of the show are sure to be excited by this strong start to the season.
