Ep 1. Episode 1

In the first episode of The King: Eternal Monarch, viewers are introduced to the two parallel universes: the Kingdom of Corea and the Republic of Korea. The Kingdom of Corea is ruled by the royal Lee family, who possess the power to move between the two dimensions using magical doors. Tae-eul is surprised to discover that Lee Gon looks exactly like the murdered victim's grandson, and learns that he is from another world. Meanwhile, Lee Gon's uncle, Prince Buyeong (played by Kim Young-ok), and his aide, Jo Yeong (played by Woo Do-hwan), try to find a way to bring him back to Corea.

As the episode progresses, viewers are shown flashbacks of Lee Gon's childhood, where he witnesses his father's murder at the hands of his traitorous uncle, Prince Im Su (played by Jung Dong-hwan). Lee Gon is skeptical about his uncle's guilt, however, and believes that there is more to the story than what he was told.

In the present day, Lee Gon tries to adjust to life in an unfamiliar world and enlists Tae-eul's help to find a way back to Corea. Along the way, they discover an ominous symbol that appears to connect the two dimensions and encounter a mysterious figure who may hold the key to the portal between worlds.
