Bette (Jennifer Beals) continues to navigate her role as the new mayor of Los Angeles, struggling to balance her personal and professional life. Meanwhile, her ex-wife Tina (Laurel Holloman) returns to town and begins renovating a building, which creates tension between the two.

Alice (Leisha Hailey) deals with the fallout of her controversial talk show, as the network pushes back against her controversial statements. She also meets a potential love interest, but has trouble opening up emotionally.

Shane (Kate Moennig) struggles with her past demons as she tries to navigate sober living and repair relationships with those she's hurt in the past. She also helps mentor a young woman named Finley (Jacqueline Toboni), who is struggling with her own addiction issues.

Additionally, new characters are introduced, including a famous musician named Dani Núñez (Arienne Mandi), who becomes involved with Bette's campaign, and a young couple named Micah (Leo Sheng) and José (Freddy Miyares), who are navigating the ups and downs of a long-distance relationship.
