Ep 3. Crazy Whitefella Thinking

After the previous episode titled Don't Be Ridiculous, The Leftovers season 3 is back with episode 3 titled Crazy Whitefella Thinking. In this episode, we see Kevin Garvey Sr. heading to Australia on a mission to save the world. He's on a personal journey to understand the voices he's been hearing in Hotel World. His plan is to use Aboriginal Folklore to stop the forthcoming biblical flood that will destroy the world.

Along the way, he encounters challenges. He meets an Aboriginal community that is not fond of outsiders. They believe that the land they are on is sacred and shouldn't be disturbed. However, Kevin Sr. won't let anything stop him, so he convinces the tribe that he is there to help them in their time of need.

As he travels deeper into the Australian Outback, Kevin Sr. faces more challenges. He is plagued by hallucinations and has to deal with the searing heat of the desert. These hallucinations take him back to the Hotel World, and he starts to worry that he might be losing his grip on reality.

Crazy Whitefella Thinking is a character-driven episode that gets deeper into Kevin Garvey Sr.'s psyche. We start to get a better understanding of why he was always so dismissive of his son's claims in the first two seasons. We also see that he's not as calm and composed as he appeared in previous episodes. He's struggling with his sanity and trying to make sense of what's going on around him.

The episode is excellently shot, with beautiful and expansive shots of the Australian Outback. It's clear that the director and cinematographer took their time to capture the essence of the Australian landscape, with its rocky hills and vast expanses of open space.

Overall, Crazy Whitefella Thinking is a standout episode in The Leftovers season 3. It does an excellent job of advancing the plot while staying true to the show's ethos of exploring the human condition. Fans of The Leftovers will not be disappointed.
