In The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes season 1 episode 4, titled "The Red Circle," Holmes and Watson are approached by a frightened German maid named Mrs. Warren, who begs them to take on the strange case of her employer, Mr. Warren, an ex-convict and former criminal associate of Holmes' nemesis, Professor Moriarty. Mr. Warren has been receiving secretive visits from an unknown individual using a code marked with a red circle, and strange occurrences have been happening around the boarding house where he lives. Mrs. Warren fears for her life and those of her husband and young son.

Holmes and Watson agree to investigate and Holmes discovers that Mr. Warren is under surveillance by his former criminal associates, including Moriarty himself, who suspect him of having stolen a valuable gemstone during his time in prison. Holmes prepares to confront the group, but as he and Watson arrive at the boarding house they find that Mr. Warren has been murdered by a member of the gang and the police are already on the scene.

With the help of Inspector Gregson and other members of Scotland Yard, Holmes sets out to unravel the complex web of relationships and connections between the criminal gang and their associates, and to uncover the true identity of the person behind the red circle code. As the investigation progresses, they discover that the gang's activities are not confined to London, and that they are part of a much wider international criminal network.

Holmes and Watson are also drawn into the personal lives of the Warrens, and must deal with the emotional fallout of their involvement in the case. Mrs. Warren is torn between loyalty to her late husband and the need to provide for her son, while her son struggles to come to terms with the loss of his father and the danger posed by the gang.

With his trademark wit and skill, Holmes navigates the treacherous waters of the criminal underworld, tackles complex puzzles and codes, and races against time to prevent the gang from carrying out their nefarious plans. Along the way, he must also confront his own demons and grapple with the ethical implications of his actions, as he seeks to bring justice to the victims and protect the innocent from harm.

"The Red Circle" is a thrilling and suspenseful episode, featuring twists and turns that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. It is also a poignant reflection on the cost of crime and the toll that it can take on individuals and society as a whole. Overall, it is a masterful portrayal of one of the most iconic detectives in literary history, and a compelling exploration of the human condition.
