The Missing season 2 episode 5, titled "Das Vergessen," takes audiences on a thrilling, emotionally charged ride as Julien Baptiste continues to investigate the case of missing teenager Alice Webster in Germany.
As the episode opens, Julien is still reeling from the shocking discovery that the young woman he thought was Alice is actually her friend Sophie Giroux. As he struggles to come to terms with this revelation, he receives a new lead in the case: a man who may have seen Alice in Germany. Julien decides to follow up on this lead, traveling to a small town where the man claims to have seen Alice.
However, when Julien arrives in the town, he finds that the man has died, and all traces of Alice have seemingly vanished. Determined to find out what happened to the missing teenager, Julien begins to dig deeper into the town, speaking with locals and uncovering new clues that may lead him to Alice.
Meanwhile, Alice's father Sam is also in Germany, following his own leads in the case. He has formed an unlikely alliance with Brigadier Stone, the soldier who was once hunting Alice's kidnapper. The two men work together to try and locate the missing girl, but their efforts are complicated by the fact that they are operating outside the law.
As the hour unfolds, the tension ratchets up as Julien and Sam both come closer to unraveling the mysteries surrounding Alice's disappearance. But just when it seems like they may be making progress, new revelations threaten to derail their efforts and send the case in a completely unexpected direction.
Throughout "Das Vergessen," the performances are top-notch, with Tcheky Karyo turning in another powerful performance as the determined and haunted Julien. David Morrissey is equally impressive as Sam, bringing a depth and vulnerability to his portrayal of the grieving father. And there are a number of stand-out moments from the supporting cast as well, particularly the scenes involving Brigadier Stone, who provides some welcome comic relief in an otherwise dark and tense episode.
As always, the writing is sharp, with plenty of twists and turns to keep audiences guessing. And while some may find the episode's slow pace and moody atmosphere somewhat frustrating, those who stick with it will be rewarded with a gripping and emotionally satisfying conclusion that leaves plenty of room for speculation and discussion.
In the end, "Das Vergessen" is a standout episode of The Missing season 2, showcasing the series' strengths in terms of storytelling, character development, and suspense. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the show or just tuning in for the first time, this is an episode that is sure to leave you on the edge of your seat and craving more.
