In The New Legends of Monkey season 2 episode 3, titled "Village of Lost Children," the four heroes continue their journey to find the sacred scrolls which would give them control over the powerful and dangerous Monkey King. This time, the group found themselves in a village in the middle of nowhere that has a reputation for losing children.
Upon their arrival, the group meets the village elder, who tells them the story of how the village's children have been disappearing without a trace, and everyone believes the children have been taken by some monster. The elder advised the group to leave and not to meddle in their affairs, but the Monkey King's crew isn’t about to do that.
As they start investigating, the Monkey King discovers that the children weren't taken by a mythical beast but rather the adults of the village themselves. The team quickly figures out that the villagers have been sacrificing their children to appease a powerful entity known as the "taker of youth." The team realizes that the sacrifice needs to stop and that they must save the children in time before it's too late.
The Monkey King’s team is faced with an uphill battle as they try to put an end to the disturbing tradition. They must convince the villagers to stop the practice, but the villagers refuse to listen. They are extremely protective of their tradition, believing that giving up their children is necessary for the village to survive and prosper.
The Monkey King, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy realize that they need to take forceful measures to save the children. The team decides to stage an attack, pretending to be the taker of youth while threatening to take the elders away. Through this, they managed to convince the elders to realize the error of their ways and to put an end to their horrid beliefs.
As the team wins the day and prepares to leave the village, a new problem arises. They find that one of the children they have saved, a little girl named Maru, has an unusual power and is potentially very dangerous. The team faces yet another challenge as they attempt to find a way to help her control her powers and avoid causing any harm to those around her.
Overall, The New Legends of Monkey season 2 episode 3 is an engaging and thrilling episode that touches on sensitive themes while still keeping the show’s trademark humor. The episode kept the narrative intense and well-executed as they dealt with the horrifying tradition happening in the village. The ending was a great cliffhanger that left viewers wanting more. Luckily, the group has more adventures to come as they continue their journey to find the sacred scrolls and control the Monkey King.
