The Undateables season 2 episode 1 kicks off with a bang as we are introduced to three new singles in the dating game - Michael, Brent and Sarah.
Michael, who is 29 years old, has Asperger's syndrome and struggles to find love. He lives alone and works in a packaging factory. Although he has been on dates before, he struggles with the social cues and often finds himself in an awkward situation. Michael is very particular about his routines and likes to stick to them rigidly, which can be a challenge for people who are interested in him romantically.
Brent, who is 20 years old, has Tourette's syndrome and Autism. He has been single all his life and has never been on a date before. Brent is quite shy and finds social situations overwhelming. He is also very particular about his routines and becomes anxious when things do not go as planned.
Sarah, who is 21 years old, has Down syndrome and is in search of love. She lives with her mother and stepfather and enjoys spending time with her family. Sarah loves to sing and dance, and often performs in local singing competitions. She has been on a few dates in the past but has yet to find the right person.
Throughout the episode, we follow each of the singles as they embark on their journey to find love. Michael meets a girl named Ciara, who has a keen interest in socialising and partying. The date doesn't go as planned, and Michael struggles to connect with Ciara. Brent meets a girl named Casey, who she's been speaking to for a few months online. Although things start off well, Brent's Tourette's syndrome causes him to have a tic, which makes him anxious. Sarah meets a guy named Gary, and the two hit it off immediately. They go on a romantic date to a fancy restaurant, and Sarah looks beautiful in her dress.
Each of the singles has their own unique challenges to overcome, but they all have the support of their families and the Undateables team. We see how each of them prepares for their dates, and the nerves they experience before meeting their potential love interest. We also get to see the chemistry between the pairings, and the potential for a successful relationship.
Overall, The Undateables season 2 episode 1 is a heartwarming portrayal of people with disabilities searching for love. The show tactfully tackles various issues, such as social awkwardness and stigma, without being patronising or insensitive. It is a must-watch for anyone who has ever experienced difficulties in finding their perfect match, or anyone who's just looking for a sweet, romantic story.
