Ep 6. Episode 6

In episode 6 of season 9 of The Yorkshire Vet, viewers are taken on another journey to the idyllic countryside of Yorkshire to join veterinarians Peter Wright and Julian Norton as they navigate their daily tasks and duties.

The episode starts with Peter, who is attending to a badly injured swan. The swan was found by a group of villagers who noticed it limping and struggling to fly. Peter takes the swan to the surgery for examination and, with the help of his assistant, the bird's wounds are treated and it's given antibiotics to help it on its road to recovery.

Julian is called to a farm where a cow has been struggling with a persistent cough. After examining the cow, Julian decides to take some samples to the lab for further analysis. It turns out that the cow has contracted tuberculosis, and the farmer is informed that all the cattle on the farm will need to be tested and some potentially culled to prevent the spread of the disease.

Later in the episode, Peter is called by a farmer who has been experiencing problems with his pregnant ewes. Peter performs a check-up and discovers that some of the ewes are in the early stages of labor. He tries to deliver some of the lambs naturally, but soon realizes that they're in a difficult position and decides to administer a cesarean section. The surgery is a success, and the ewes and their offspring are doing well.

Meanwhile, Julian is called by a young couple who are concerned about their pet pig. They've noticed he's been having trouble walking and is becoming more and more lethargic. Julian examines the pig and discovers a spinal problem. He administers some anti-inflammatory treatments and gives the couple advice on how to care for their pet pig, emphasizing the importance of a healthy diet and appropriate exercise.

As the episode comes to a close, viewers see Peter called to help rescue a horse that has fallen into a ditch and is trapped. With the help of a local farmer and some heavy machinery, they manage to lift the horse out of the ditch and onto safe ground.

Throughout the entire episode, viewers are taken through the daily tasks of both Peter and Julian, seeing the highs and lows that come with working in veterinary medicine in rural Yorkshire. From birthing sheep to treating pet pigs, there's never a dull moment for these experienced veterinarians. The episode highlights the importance of veterinary medicine in the rural community and shows the deep connections that exist between veterinarians and their clients.
