Weird But True! Season 1 Episode 5 Sharks!

  • October 3, 2016

Weird But True! is a children's television show that unveils the strangest facts and peculiarities about our world. Hosts Charlie and Kirby explore and investigate different topics, revealing fascinating and often surprising information that will blow children's minds. Season 1 episode 5 is titled "Sharks!" and, as the title implies, the episode aims to explore these fascinating creatures of the sea.

The episode starts out with a brief introduction to sharks, detailing their various shapes and sizes. Right off the bat, we learn that sharks come in all sizes, from the pygmy shark, which is as small as your palm, to the whale shark, which can grow up to 60 feet long! The hosts also talk about how sharks have been around since the dinosaurs, which is pretty impressive.

Next up, Charlie and Kirby take us to an aquarium to meet some sharks up close and personal. One of the aquarium's staff members gives us some interesting information about shark anatomy and behavior. For instance, did you know that some sharks can sense electric fields, and that they can use this sense to find prey hidden in the sand? Or that sharks can detect the scent of a single drop of blood in an Olympic-sized swimming pool? Or that sharks have multiple rows of teeth, and keep growing new ones to replace old ones that fall out?

After hanging out with the sharks at the aquarium, the hosts take us to the ocean to learn more about these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. They get to meet with a real-life shark scientist, who teaches them that not all sharks are the same. In fact, there are over 400 different species of sharks, each with its unique characteristics. Some sharks live in shallow waters, while others live in the depths of the ocean. Some prefer warm waters, while others thrive in colder temperatures. The shark expert even lets them touch a real shark egg!

But the show doesn't just focus on the cool facts about sharks. It also sheds light on some of the misconceptions that people have about these animals. For instance, many people think that all sharks are man-eaters that prey on humans. The hosts explain that while shark attacks are real, they are pretty rare. In fact, more people are killed each year by falling coconuts than by shark attacks! They go on to explain that sharks are an important part of the ocean's ecosystem, and that we need to protect them in order to keep the ocean healthy.

As the episode comes to a close, Charlie and Kirby visit a conservation center that is working to protect sharks and their habitats. They learn about some of the challenges facing sharks, such as overfishing and the destruction of their natural habitats. They also get to see some of the conservation efforts in action, such as tagging sharks with GPS trackers to monitor their movements and behaviors.

Overall, "Sharks!" is a fascinating and informative episode that will entertain and educate kids about one of the most fascinating creatures on the planet. Charlie and Kirby make a great team, bringing plenty of enthusiasm and curiosity to the subject matter. The episode strikes a good balance between fun trivia and serious conservation messages, making it a great watch for both entertainment and education.
