Wild Bill is a British police procedural drama that premiered on ITV in the UK before moving to Amazon Prime in the United States as an Amazon Addon. The show stars Rob Lowe as a tough American police chief named Bill Hixon, who takes on his biggest challenge yet when he moves to the small English town of Boston, Lincolnshire. It’s a place where the people are friendly, but not always supportive of outsiders, and where the crime rate is relatively low, but there are still plenty of challenges for the new chief to face.

Lowe is perfect in the role of Wild Bill, a tough, no-nonsense cop whose life is upended when he takes on this new job. Hixon is a widower who is still grieving the loss of his wife, and he brings his 16-year-old daughter Kelsey (played by Aloreia Spencer) with him to England in hopes of starting fresh. However, the move doesn't go as smoothly as planned, and Bill quickly finds himself at odds with the locals, who are suspicious of his motivations and methods.

The show is about Bill's struggles to fit into his new surroundings and the challenges he faces in trying to balance his job with his personal life. The series does an excellent job of showing the difficulties that come with being an outsider in a small town. The people of Boston are wary of Bill's American background and his brash, sometimes off-putting personality. They think he's too abrasive and doesn't understand their way of life. This creates an interesting dynamic between the chief and the locals, as he tries to earn their trust while navigating the town's politics.

Bronwyn James gives a standout performance as DC Muriel Yeardsley, one of Hixon's colleagues on the Boston police force. James brings a level of intensity to her role that perfectly complements Lowe's character. Her partnership with Hixon is rocky at first, with her being hostile to him, but the two gradually build a rapport over the course of the season. Tony Pitts also delivers an excellent performance as the town's mayor, who is hiding a dark secret that threatens to impact Hixon's time in Boston.

The show has an overarching plotline involving a notorious drug dealer who has made Boston his base of operations. Hixon believes that taking down the drug lord will be his biggest victory, but soon discovers that it won't be easy. The dealer is smart and connected, and his reach extends far beyond Boston. The whodunit element of the show is well-executed, with several plot twists and turns that keep the audience guessing.

One of the things that sets Wild Bill apart from other police procedurals is its focus on character development. The show doesn't just rely on its plot twists and action sequences to keep viewers engaged. Instead, it's the characters and their relationships that are the driving force behind the show. Hixon's relationship with his daughter Kelsey, for example, is one of the highlights of the series. Lowe and Spencer have great chemistry, and their interactions are both heartwarming and heartbreaking at times.

In terms of production values, Wild Bill is a well-crafted show with great cinematography and a solid soundtrack. The sweeping shots of the English countryside and the quaint town of Boston give the show a distinct aesthetic that's both beautiful and haunting. The score is also a standout, with a mix of original music and classic rock that perfectly captures the tone of the show.

All in all, Wild Bill is a gripping police procedural drama that's well worth watching. Rob Lowe gives a standout performance as the tough American cop who tries to make a new life for himself in England, and the supporting cast is equally strong. The show's focus on character development and its exploration of outsiders in a small town make it a standout addition to the genre. If you're a fan of police procedurals or crime dramas, Wild Bill is definitely worth checking out.
