- May 30, 2011
Sheamus and Kofi Kingston went head-to-head in a Tables Match for the United States Championship in the second episode of WWE Extreme Rules season 2011. In this intense match, the only way to win was to put your opponent through a table.
Sheamus, known for his brutal in-ring style, had been the reigning United States Champion since January of that year. The Irish wrestler had held championships in various promotions around the world before joining WWE in 2009. He had quickly made a name for himself on the main roster, winning the WWE Championship within a year of his debut. Sheamus was a powerhouse in the ring, using his size and strength to overpower his opponents.
Kofi Kingston, on the other hand, was a high-flyer. The Ghanaian wrestler had been with WWE since 2007 and had won multiple championships in his career, including the United States Championship. Kingston was known for his acrobatic moves and signature Trouble in Paradise kick, which had won him many matches in the past.
The match started off with Sheamus taking control, using his strength advantage to dominate Kingston. He tossed Kingston around the ring, slamming him into the turnbuckles and hitting him with powerful strikes. Kingston tried to fight back, using his speed and agility to dodge Sheamus' attacks and land some of his own.
The match quickly turned into a back-and-forth battle, with both wrestlers using a variety of moves to gain the upper hand. Sheamus hit Kingston with a devastating clothesline, but Kingston countered with a dropkick that sent Sheamus to the outside of the ring. Kingston then launched himself over the top rope, taking out Sheamus with a high-flying move.
The action continued outside the ring, with both wrestlers bringing out tables to use as weapons. Sheamus used a table to hit Kingston in the midsection, but Kingston fought back with a flurry of kicks and punches. He then set up a table in the ring, looking to put Sheamus through it and win the match.
Sheamus had other plans, however, and managed to regain control. He hit Kingston with a series of power moves, including a brutal Irish Curse backbreaker. Sheamus then set up a table of his own and looked to put Kingston through it. Kingston managed to counter Sheamus' attempt, dodging out of the way and sending Sheamus crashing through the table instead.
The match continued with both wrestlers trading blows and trying to gain the upper hand. Kingston hit a series of high-flying moves, including a springboard crossbody and a diving elbow drop. Sheamus fought back with his powerful strikes, but was unable to put Kingston through a table.
The match came to a dramatic conclusion when both wrestlers ended up on the top rope, fighting for control. Kingston managed to gain the upper hand, hitting Sheamus with a superplex that sent both wrestlers crashing through a table below. The referee declared Kingston the winner and the new United States Champion.
Overall, the match was an intense back-and-forth battle between two talented wrestlers. Sheamus' strength and power were countered by Kingston's speed and agility, making for an exciting match that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The use of tables added an extra element of danger to the match, showcasing the extreme nature of WWE's signature event.
