- 2016 Seasons
On August 29, 1988 Hulk Hogan and Randy Macho Man Savage defeated Ted Dibiase and the legendary Andre The Giant in the main even at the inaugural SummerSlam wrestling card. In the 24 years since then, the SummerSlam event has grown in status to become one of the biggest pay per view events for Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment. Hundreds and hundreds of WWE legends and Hall of Famers have shown up each summer to battle in the squared circle for titles, fame, love, and vengeance. The Ultimate Warrior, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Brett The Hitman Hart, Brock Lesner, Shawn Michaels, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, and Rowdy Roddy Piper are among the superstars that laced up their boots and took to the ring to settle scores and go for the gold. The SummerSlam event is one of the grandest stages for WWE wrestlers to show their skills in front of millions of rabid fans. The 2012 event was more than able to live up to the rich history of the event to deliver a great show for everyone in attendance and the viewers at home. The buildup for SummerSlam was intense. In the weeks building up to the August 19th event, tempers flared and alliances were broken in the quest for pay per view glory. WWE Legend, Chris Jericho felt that Dolph Ziggler needed to be shut up, and he chose to be the one to do it. He squared off with Ziggler in one of his last WWE matches. Irish born superstar, Sheamus, defended his World Heavyweight title against second generation grappler Alberto Del Rio from Mexico. Former MTV bad boy and reality star, Mike The Miz Mizanin finally got his chance to go head to head with Lucha Libre stand out Rey Mysterio. R-Truth and Kofi Kingston, the WWE Tag Team champs, defended their titles against the up and coming Prime Time Players. The PTP is made up of Darren Young and former NFL player, Titus O'Neil. Former Ultimate Fighting Champion Brock Lesner returned to the WWE to fight Triple H. In the main event, WWE Heavyweight champion, C.M. Punk faced his toughest challenger in John Cena. Punk and Cena had a knockout drag down fight to the finish for the most prestigious title in professional wrestling. Not one match on this show disappoints. If you are a current wrestling fan, or even if you are a fan of days gone by, you will enjoy this event. WWE's SummerSlam was a great way to spend a hot summer night.
