Panic Room is a 2002 thriller movie directed by David Fincher and written by David Koepp. The movie stars Jodie Foster, Kristen Stewart, Forest Whitaker, and Jared Leto in major roles. The story begins with Meg Altman (Jodie Foster) and her daughter Sarah (Kristen Stewart) moving into a new house in New York. They soon discover that their new home has a fortified room or "panic room" as a last resort, in case of an emergency situation. On their first night in the new home, three burglars, Burnham (Forest Whitaker), Junior (Jared Leto) and Raoul (Dwight Yoakam) break into the house, unaware of the family’s presence. They plan on stealing a large sum of money that they believe is hidden in the house.

As the burglars enter the house, Sarah is still awake and stumbles upon them. The burglars grab her while Meg watches in horror from a monitor in the panic room. Meg quickly carries Sarah to the panic room and locks herself and her daughter inside. The burglars, knowing that they need to get to the panic room, attempt to break in. The tension starts to rise as the burglars become more and more desperate.

As they begin to panic, the burglars resort to using various techniques to try and force Meg and her daughter out of the room. This includes cutting off the power to the house, using gas to try and smoke them out, and eventually, resorting to brute force.

The movie is a thrilling battle of wits as the resourceful Meg tries to outsmart the burglars to keep her daughter safe. While trapped in the panic room, they begin to realize that something is not right. There is more to the hidden room than they had initially thought. As the movie unfolds, Meg and the burglars discover dark secrets concealed within the room that sends them on a dangerous and deadly path.

The cinematography of the movie is fantastic. The use of wide shots and closeups to capture the tension in the room, the silence and the atmosphere, all contribute to the sense of claustrophobia.

The performances by the cast are stunning. Jodie Foster’s portrayal of Meg Altman as a mother fiercely intent on protecting her daughter is compelling. Kristen Stewart displays the fear and anxiety of a young girl trapped with the realization that her life is in peril. Forest Whitaker, Jared Leto, and Dwight Yoakam are excellent as the burglars. They add depth to the characters beyond being one-dimensional bad guys.

Overall, Panic Room is a captivating thriller that has the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish. It boasts high-quality performances, an engaging storyline, and excellent direction from David Fincher. While a panic room may seem like the ultimate protection, Meg and Sarah soon realize that keeping themselves alive might be the hardest thing they’ve had to do.

Panic Room is a 2002 crime movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 52 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.8 and a MetaScore of 65.
