The Amityville Horror was the scene of a horrendous murder in November 1974, when Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered not only his parents, but his two little brothers and two sisters as well with a .35 caliber gun. The DeFeos had lived in the house for only 28 days. The only thing that Ronald could tell the cops was that he heard voices telling him to kill the six members of his family. It's now one year later, and the Lutz family is moving into the very home that the murders were committed in. They get the house for a very cheap price because of the murders. When Kathy is upset about the murders, George tells her that houses don't kill people, people do.
Right away the members of the family start seeing horrible things, including the ghost of Jodi DeFeo and a number of horribly disfigured bodies. They also begin hearing ghostly voices and find things out of place in their home. It isn't long before the kids get to the point that they are scared to be in their rooms alone. George and Kathy Lutz are starting over with Kathy's three kids, and this was supposed to be the home of their dreams.
The hauntings escalate until the Lutzes decide to call in a priest to perform an exorcism. The priest is only there for a very short amount of time when he is swarmed by flies. He runs from the property, but not before telling the Lutz's to get out of that house.
George soon starts to hear voices and becomes something totally different from the man that Kathy married. He is short with the children and verbally abusive to Kathy on more than one occasion.
The Amityville Horror is based on a true story and gives a first-hand account of the sheer terror that the Lutz family lived through in the 28 days they remained in the haunted house.
