Critics' Television Award Winners Include 'American Idol' and 'Mad Men'

Critics' Television Award Winners Include 'American Idol' and 'Mad Men' The ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hotel was packed full of TV stars and producers Monday afternoon, as the first annual Critics' Choice Television Awards took place.

The ceremony featured a whopping 10 nominees in both Best Comedy Series and Best Drama series, but only one went home with the trophy, awarded through the votes of entertainment journalists and critics.

So who won? The big drama award of the night went to AMC's "Mad Men," breaking the winning ways of "Boardwalk Empire" for now. Best Comedy Series went to "Modern Family," and there's little surprise there.

The award for Best Reality Show went to "American Idol," a show that consistently gets shunned by the Emmys every year. While I have no doubt that "American Idol" deserves some kind of award (you can't be ignored with that kind of viewership for over a decade), I'm not sure that "Idol" is really the best reality show out there. If you take away all of the product placement, I'd be much more inclined to agree.

Acting awards went to Jon Hamm for "Mad Men," John Noble for "Fringe" (yay!), Tina Fey for "30 Rock," and to Neil Patrick Harris for his work on "How I Met Your Mother," just to name a few. There was also a tie (yes, a tie!) between Christina Hendricks for "Mad Men" and Margo Martindale for "Justified" for supporting actress.
